I know a lot of people on here mainly fish the rivers. But those that fish open water that use a fish finder, has anyone tried out any of the new Lowance HDS touch's with the built in Structure Scan? I have a Humminbird 997c SI on my bass boat that I am thinking of taking off and putting on the new Hobie PA 14 but the fact that the GPS puck is a stand alone part has me wondering if its better to sell it and go with a lowrance that has a built in GPS antenna. I had read on a differnt form an old post were a guy had used it and mounted it inside the yak but never gave any feedback on how it worked.

Don't know much about the hummingbird units. I have a lowrance elite 4 and really like it, if they were out at the time I would have gotten a dual signal lowrance that's out now, I like the size of the 4 cause it fits the yak nicely and ram makes some good mounts for it. As for the gps, I like having my handheld garmin, just keep it near me and use it, didn't like reaching over to the ff to track way points. Check out some of the new lowrance units with dual signal. And your new pa is designed for lowrance transducers, seems that may work easier.

My buddy has one of the elite-7 hybrids on his ranger and likes it a lot. Touch screen and very easy to use plus internal antenna. Ive been thinking of putting a couple on my triton because my lowrances are very outdated.

One thing I want to try and figure out is to continue to use side imaging/structure scan. It comes in handy once you've used before. I can't tell you how many times I've found bottom structure like a super boat or a rock pile 100 feet off to the side and went over to it and caught fish.from what I've read the HHobie lowrance ready plates don't allow SI to be used as the transducer has to have an unobstructed view.

Just got off the phone with Lowrance and in order to use their structure scan you have to use a second separate transducer. I knew you had to do this with the older units but was hoping with the new ones with the built in structure scan capabilities they had combined it into one transducer.

One cool thing about the new hds touch with structure scan is you can record the scan and upload it to make your own lake map. Would come in real handy for those small lakes that don't have any maps for.
