Although the bite seems to be picking up a bit lately, this has been a slow summer for me and I think others too. Looking at KBF it seems they are slow too. As is WVA. Does anyone have any ideas? The one thing I have noticed is that the humming birds at my feeders were numerous in the spring and the bite was good then. We got a cold snap right about that time and the fishing slacked off and so did the hummers. I usually go through 2 cups of sugar water a day this time of the year. presently I use 1 cup in maybe 3 days. All my neighbors have the same thing going on. The last few days the hummers seem to have showed up more. Could this mean the fishing is gonna pic up? I sure do hope so. Any thoughts??? Or am I losing it?

This while year has been off in my opinion. Noticed it with the stripers. Which have been several weeks behind their normal pattern. Which stripers can be pretty predictable once you figure them out. You could catch a striper at night top water a full month after they are normally done. I think it has to do with the cold spring we had and the fact it's mid august and it has gotten down down to the low 60's high 50's at night. I've heard a couple of predictions of a very cold wet winter. Maybe it's all weather related?

I would think so Mark but it did finally warm up. I just think it is weird that the Hummingbirds are scarce this year too. I guess I am just bored with all this rain. I almost went to the New yesterday just to get out. Crazy huh?

Don't think it would have been crazy. Ice fished plenty in the rain. The fish are already wet. But I agree I'm ready to get back on the water. I hope to get out on the water this weekend even if I don't wet a line just itching to get the yak wet

Sorry the fishing has been slow this summer, I have been so busy that haven't had much time to get on the river, so I guess I haven't missed much.

I have never heard of the hummingbird fishing theory! Sorry to hear you are tied up this weekend, I was thinking of heading up to Gatewood or somewhere on Saturday, or just somewhere different. If I go on the river, I may just take the musky stuff. Anyone want to fish Saturday?

Jeff, if the hummingbird theory is correct...the river should be on fire this weekend. I hate it that I'm gonna miss it.

I think there might be some truth to your hummingbird theory Phil; I've been out the past three days and slayed the smallies! Caught numbers as well as three smallmouth over 18in. Even managed to get follows by 3muskies!
