I heard a rumor that one of the walleye guides is predicting the spawn to start next week and may only last a week due to the cold weather. He was assisting the DGIF with shocking this week and they only shocked 12 over 2 hours but were expecting over 100. He is predicting the peak to be late next week and is scheduling his trips now. I may try to head to Foster Falls the next weekend if the river is not blown out.

I might be interested also... wonder what the river will be like. I was in WV all day today, and there was crazy flooding everywhere. We were in one little town and the lady told us we better get out of town, they were getting ready to close the road we came in on...

Not this coming Saturday but the next one is when I am gonna try to go. He thinks they will start moving up river middle of next week once the temps start to warm, but I wonder how the high water will affect them. Can you imagine trying to fight upstream against this current for a little piece of tail.

I found this nice little study on the spawning habits of walleye in the New River that is a great read. It points out the 3 main spawning locations for the fish. Looking forward to getting out there this weekend if the water levels stay down. Movements of Walleye in Claytor Lake and the Upper New River

Barring any major rain to the south, the river looks to be in pretty good shape for Saturday. Only flowing at 2200 in Ivanhoe.
