Hey guys just wondering if anyone has fished in the Backcountry paddlesports tournament on the New in the past. How many people fish it? The boundaries are Whitethorne to Eggleston it looks like, so just kinda checking around on what to expect, never fished that portion from a yak.

I've fished it the last 3 years, and probably will again this year. I enjoy it, and they give a ton a prizes, a meal, tshirt, and free camping, Its well worth the money. Very good area to fish. That is where I fish most of the time... Last year there was 90 some people in it. Its a good time, Brad, from Montgomery County Parks and Rec is usually the one that runs it and he use to be on here quite a bit. They allow live bait, which is either good or bad depending on what you fish with. I think it should be a separate division... Probably won't do the Musky tournament this year, because of my wife's birthday, I will probably take my wife out to dinner on Friday night. Last year a couple of guys drug their kayaks down to the mouth of toms creek and bank fished all night with live bait and caught muskies, but kinda defeats the purpose of a paddle fishing tournament.

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure yet if I'll get to do it or not this year but want to get in it eventually. 90 people is way more than I would have thought honestly, does that stretch of river feel crowded out with that many people? BTW I agree with the bait vs artificial being different categories and bank fishing definetly defeats the purpose haha.

I can't this year but my dad is going to try it out. I'm going to block it off my schedule next year for sure.

Just registered online for this tournament, never have participated before. I have actually only fished in the New River once a couple of years ago. Hope to meet some of you there, does anyone plan on camping?

I won't be fishing it but Jeff, I have those sighs that I had made up for the "get together" that you can borrow so people will be able to locate you guys. Just need to meet up with you.

Does anyone know the address for the Tournament headquarters or could give me general directions to where exactly is the camping going to be at? I drove to Whitethorn and fished a little this morning then we looked around in McCoy for where it was going to be held but I am not from around the area so I don't really know where to go on Friday.
