my name is Ben from Riner bought a kayak last year, best thing I have ever bought, started by doing floats on the little river. Moved on to the new river once I got used to it. Been on about 40-50 floats since last April. Heard about the website and thought it would be useful information and a group of people that share the passion of kayaking. Look forward to doing some fishing with the people on here.

Welcome Ben. Lots of new members here. I'm sure you will enjoy this site. Any yak questions just bring em on. Lot's of experience and info here. The only dumb question is the unasked question. Hope to see ya at the spring kickoff. What kind of yak did you get?

I just got a cheap sit on top pelican yak from dicks sporting good for my first one, just wanted to see what it was all about and if I enjoyed it before i invested a ton of money into a kayak. But like I said best thing I ever bought already looking at better ones to buy in the future. I got to float/fish parts of the little river, Roanoke river, and new river I never even knew existied till last year because I didn't have any accesses to them through wadding or a boat.

Any kayak that gets you out on the water is a good one!

Welcome. I had a conoe for years and bought a sit in a couple of years ago. It wasa game changer to be able to head out by myself whenever I got a couple hours to fish and the very next year I got a nice sit on top and couldn't imagine not fishing from a yak. My boat tags have been dead for 6 months now and I haven't missed it once.

Ben, keep an eye on F/B Kayak Fishing buy sell and trade. Also Craigs list is a good place to look. I'm no familiar with that Pelican but when you start looking around you may want to consider a sit on top vs. a sit in. I wanted a sit in at first until I talked to others on some of these forums and it turned out to be good advise. If you can make the "get together" we are gonna have you will get a chance to try many different ones out. Also Back Country has a demo day sometime in the summer.
