What kind of paddles are you guys using? I need to get a longer paddle for my big rig and wanted some input on what others are using and what they like and don't like. I am trying to decide between a werner shuna hooked and a bending branches angler pro both in 260cm. There are a ton of reviews about the angler pro, but I can't find many reviews about werner's hooked series. I am leaning towards the werner because of the way the paddle goes together in the middle and it is also lighter than the bending branches. Backcountry has one of the werner camano paddles which is similar to the shuna except for the blade design so I am going to check it out and see how it feels compared to the bending branches. Bending branches seems to be the top player in the kayak fishing sector and I wonder why? I liked my current bending branches sunrise paddle but it has developed a lot of play in the joint that I would like to avoid. If I am going to pay 3 times as much I want this to last 3 times as long as my current one. One last thing if you guys haven't tried these paddle grips you don't know what you are missing out on. I will definitely be purchasing another set for my new paddle.

I have a aquabound sting ray carbon I bought and love it. My next paddle will be a exodus fish stix. But im to cheap to pay the price. I will never own a alum paddle again now that I have used a carbon. I get 240cm but with the big rig I could see going with a 260cm. Bending branch or werner paddles are good quality. I have been using paddle grips for years and love them.

Ive got a 250cm bending branches angler ace and love it. Im fishing out of an old town predator 13 and use the high seat position almost exclusively but I do find I "high stick" more than I probably should so a 260cm wouldve been better. The BB has held up well and I dont baby it in the least bit.

Now wvfisherman has me looking at the AT oracle I found when I checked out the fishstix. The only problem is none of their online retailers have them in stock. I guess I am still a little early for everybody stocking up on gear.

I to have a aquabound and it's nice but, Im always in the highseat position in my Coosa and Im a high sticker because it's to short (230cm). My newbie mistake when I first started. If I was getting a new one today I would consider 3 things. 1 of course price point. 2 weight (I want carbon or fiber). 3 adjustable (newer paddles that change in size to meet the needs of different kayaks and users). My brother got a Cannon adjustable with his BigRig but it also doubles as his Coosa paddle. I think that's a big plus. Good luck in your search for a perfect fit and keep us posted with your decision.
PS. thanks for the grips link. I want some!!

I think that's a big plus. The AT paddles I am considering have 10cm of adjustability but I am wary of an adjustable paddle. My biggest worry is that the joint will develop slop over time but I have never looked at one in person so that fear may be unfounded. I do like the idea of being able to also use the paddle with my tarpon when I decide to take it instead of my barge.

For my kayak I use the ole basic alum. Carlisle or I "borrow" my wife's AquaBound but last year I bought a 280CM BB Slice Glass for my solo canoe. It is freakishly long but man I can get the leverage with it. Makes paddling up stream ALOT easier and I rarely bang the gunwales.
I have read that BB stands behind their products and will replace broken paddles FOC. No personal experiences though.

I went to backcountry and compared the werner camano to the BB angler ace. I really loved the werner it was much lighter and the locking mechanism was solid, but the blades are very thin and can be flexed relatively easy by hand. The BB angler ace was noticeably heavier and I could feel a lot of slop at the joint, but the blades were solid and did not have any flex. Doesn anyone have a BB angler pro? I wonder how thick the blades are compared to the angler ace and the warner paddle.
Backcountry has the new coosa hd in stock so I had to check it out and drool on it for a little bit. It looks like a river fishing machine with a ton of little upgrades compared to previous models, but I am not sure if they are worth the extra price. The front cover is hinged now and that is something I would like to adapt to my big rig.

My new cuda has a hinged middle cover and I like it better than the old style on the cuda. Good luck on youe search for a new paddle.

I am a big fan of the NRS PKT paddles....you can get them in 260cm and the paddle blade is big and moves a lot of water which is nice for a bigger yak.
