I had read last year that the spawns of 04', 05', and 06' were above average and that trophy smallmouth will likely be in the near future. Unfortunately, with the amount of guides on the New River nowadays that variable is iffy. Go big or go home. I'm after a citation this year. Lost one in September right at the boat. And about a week later hooked into another really nice one. She went from an upstream eddy, directly under my kayak, and broke me off. She was a pig, but I never got to see her. Had me tore all to pieces.

Sound's like I will be fishing the New more than the James.
