anyone fish with the berkley lightning shock rods, saw one in wally world and it had a nice feel in the hand. was thinking of getting the 6 ft med action for small mouth, going to pair it with a shimano sahara 1000. Any thoughts?

I have a older Berkley lightning rod,pretty decent rod for the price.

I had one and broke it,my fault. I hooked a good smallmouth and wasn't paying attention and got sucked under some low hanging limbs and it was in the flush mounts and broke the tip off. What little I fished with it I liked it, and you cant beat the price. The sahara is a sweet reel you will like it a lot. I think you will be satisfied with the combo.

I had to return one the cork split very easy as I was seating the reel and the new one feels like it wants to fall apart in the handle area.

I have two been good to me so far. I have bait casters on both of them. Both are 6.6 one med one light.
