Hi everyone. I've been lurking around since last summer. I'm so stoked about fishing this summer that I thought that I would join in. I put my fishing poles down back in the late 90's to race dirtbikes with my son while he was growing up. He lost interest when he got his drivers license a couple of years ago so I'm back! I've been fishing the James around Bent Creek and Natural Bridge, the Staunton below the Leesville Dam and Burtons Lake here in Pittsylvania County. I also like taking my wife, daughter and friends to Buggs, Philpott and SML to cruise around in our little bowrider (for years while dragging my wife and daughter all over the place racing, I promised them that when we were through racing that we would do whatever THEY wanted to do. Well they wanted to go to the lake! Okay by me!). I love the James but feel like I'm missing out by not fishing the New also. I know nothing about the New but have been told that it can be tricky. I hope to pick up some pointers from the experts! And in return maybe I can help out some folks that want to check out some of the spots that I'm familiar with.

Welcome to the site Murf! I'm sure you saw we're having a "get together" April 5. Would be a good chance to meet some of the guys and maybe set up some outings. I hope to take my wife out more this year unless by some miracle she outfishes me. Then she's gonna be a landlubber again.

Thanks for the welcomes gentlemen!
Philipgoldwing, thanks for the invite. I have to be in Richmond at 2PM on the 5th for work. My girls love to paddle but dont care about fishing. It's a relief too, they'd probably smoke me. Usually when they go I dont fish much, their tandem Tarpon moves so fast I have to paddle like crazy to keep up!

Sorry you can't make it. I'm thinking about buying a Tarpon 140, just out of curiousity what do you paddle?

I usually paddle an Old Town Guide 119. And I also bought a Perception Access from Dick's last summer for my son and friends to use that I use sometimes use (I'm also trying to get my wife and daughter to try a solo SOT). I've paddled some Tarpons. They're great boats. We had an issue with the seat backs on my wife's 130T. WS had already identified the design flaw and was redesigning the seat backs and as soon as they were ready they sent us 2 new seat backs, no charge. Great customer service! The Tarpons are fast! Faster than I like for fishing. BUT, those same traits make them paddle upstream with less effort. Good luck with you're choice
