Just got done testing a new series/style of rod specific to kayak fishing. It has an adjustable but section. Right now it's only available in freshwater applications but I am getting a prototype but section from the manufacturer that is going to be used for heavy applications and also another model to use for light/medium saltwater applications.
Now you can make the butt section as short as an 3 inches past the reel seat grip or extend it out to 10".

That is a really interesting concept. The way kayak fishing has exploded onto the world of fishing that seems like the next step in the evolution of fishing poles for kayak anglers. What would truly be awesome is if they would make kayak rods that floated without the use of rod floaters.
