Wasn't sure where to put this, so will drop it here..... I have just finished building my website about Striped Bass fishing. I would like to invite everyone who is interested in Striper fishing to take a look. Use the following link to get there: The Striper ManualAny comments are welcome. To the forum Admin....... I took the liberty of adding your forums to my "links" section, while working on it today. If that is a problem, please let me know.

Nice website! Someone told me today that they are starting to catch a few way up in the Roanoke River, but not all the way up yet. When do they usually get up to the Explorer Park area, and how long do they usually stay in there. I would like to go up there sometime and give it a try, still never caught a striper.

I've seen a few pictures of fish caught around the Hardy boat ramp recently. I've never fished up around explorer park. It's always been on the list, but just never worked out when the fish are there.

If you have never caught a Striper, you are missing out on some real fun. From mid-October to mid-December, large schools of bait and hungry stripers move to the upper parts of the river arms (above MarkersR-36 and B26) and feeder creeks like Beaverdam, Indian and Standiford. At dawn, dusk, and at night, beat the banks with a Redfin, flukes or bucktail jig. In daytime, use live shad in 10 to 25 feet of water.

You are right caught several this past spring around b45 all on top water. SML slayride in my ride 115. Going to try in the morning at the ponderosa boat ramp.

If you ever hook a 40+ pound striper in your kayak, it's hard to say how many miles it would take you. It is one mightly strong freshwater fish. On occasion, I have had to use my trolling motor (18 foot bass boat), to chase a striper down, after nearly having my reel spooled spooled. Talk about a "white knuckle" event!! Catching Stripers can become quite addicting.
