Wondering where and when is the best time and place to catch walleye?? I've been fishing on the NR now for 1 & 1/2 years and have not eat the first fish, catch and release all of them. I've herd that the walleye is a real good fish to eat but have not fished for them as of yet. I've herd they can be caught in Claytor lake, don't want to go by myself, never been on the lake yet... Anyone who wants to go walleye fishing I'm ready

I have fished claytor a lot out of a bass boat. Never fished for walleyes only bass. Below sandstone falls here in Wv they catch big walleye but I don't fish for them. I need to put that on my bucket list this year.

Upper New river in Wythe County and Carrol County. The VA state record is from the New there and they have a protective slot limit this time of year so you can keep the smaller good eaters and have to turn the big females back. If I catch a musky before the end of winter I plan on heading that way in the next month or so.

Upper New is defiantly the place to go for walleye in VA. I have family that that's all they fish for pretty much. You can catch them year around if you know where to go. Most of the time they fish for them at night with rapalas, husky jerks and smithwicks. The best time to fish for them is in Febuary through March or April, when they run upriver to spawn.

Hope you catch your Musky soon, and if you ever need a shuttle partner hit me up I'm always ready for an outing

Thanks for the confidence Jeff. I've learned alot about trying to get one of these fish from the kayak lately and hopefully I can get out after the next full moon for a day light to dark trip if that's what it takes to get one. I'd be glad to take you along when I start chasing walleyes next month rebel. You know of anywhere to get live minnows right now?

I have always heard rumors of good prespawn fishing around foster falls but never have been out there that time of year. I would love to check off another fish I have never had the privilege of catching.
