Welcome to the site Tyler, I'm at Tech as well, but am finishing up this semester. Some places to fish from shore include the Whitethorne boatramp, the mouth of Tom's Creek is a pretty good spot for muskies too!

I don't know about shore fishing for winter smallmouth in this area, others might have some suggestions. For muskies, I would say Whitethorn boat ramp and upstream. Not sure how easy it will be to cast musky tackle from the bank with all the trees along the shore upsteam of John;s creek. Another area would be the boat ramp at Radford below the dam. There is a lot of shore line from the ramp up to the the mouth of the little river. If you have some good chest waders, you can wade out some in this area, its pretty shallow at times near the bank.
A few of us have an extra kayak, so if you see some of us posting about going fishing, don't be afraid to ask to join up..

Thanks for the info! I don't have all of my tackle down here yet because I am in a dorm so my muskie stuff is still at home but I plan on bringing it down after spring break. I would love to fish with you guys! Hopefully we can make that happen. I actually tried for small mouth above whitethorne boat ramp today by toms creek and felt like it was really shallow near the shore and I couldn't get my jig to the deeper water. I am getting some waders in march so maybe that will help.

The water is shallow around there, but be careful if you decide to wear waders and walk out off the bank... The mud will cause you to sink a lot! Let me know if you're interested in going out with someone who knows some wadeable spots, my number is 804-627-1093 and I live out in the CRC, name's Tyler as well.

I would love to go fishing with someone who has experience around here. Like I said I am a freshman and just starting to find the better spots. I will definitely give you a call once I get my waders.
