I posted this in another post but figured more members would see it here.. You never know when something catastrophic is about to happen till its to late... I learned the hard and costly way. One extra strap would have saved the day.
kind of off subject but the same lesson applies ...I've been flying radio control planes for 30 years I had a battery go bad once while flying cost me a $3000.00 plane every since then I've always had a redundancy system with back up battery in my planes, now its time to use a back up strap or two on my trailer, only if, right.
Before I left out this morning I pulled and tugged on my yak like always, it did not move at all it was strapped down tight.
My front strap failed this morning, my yak fell off the trailer the back strap held and I ended up dragging my boat upside down for over a mile. I guess some could say I was lucky not to burn a hole in the bottom of the boat, but it totaled my seat, 4 rods and reels, rod holders ripped from the track system, tackle box destroyed and my new paddle well its un useable right now. Ill have to send it in for repairs... Hell I was only doing 25mph cause of the fog. If it would have been a clear morning I probably wouldn't have a yak anymore, I couldn't see back there it was black dark... I had no idea it was being drug due to the train down below me after the train past I heard what sounded like the trailer being drug by the safety chains, I stop got out and could not believe my eyes... I had to walk the road with a flash light picking up all my stuff I've been using ratchet straps now for years tying down mowers, 4 wheelers, boats, etc. never had one fail until today... For now on I will have extra straps tying down my stuff... Just saying, you never know (shit happens)

Harry, I am so sorry to hear about this. I guess it could have been worse but this is surely bad enough. I typically only tie mine down with one strap but after reading this I will secure it with more straps.

Sorry to hear Harry, I'm sure I have some rods and reels if you need to borrow some. Thanks Jeff, I get paid on Wednesday so Ill probably pick up a couple ugly sticks. Thinking about taken the wife down to Bass Pro Shop... depending on how much I spend on the rods I might need an extra reel for a few weeks, only one of my reels survived the ordeal. Ill let you know, and thanks again

Yeah it hurt pretty bad. I got to get just a few thing now so I can get back out on the water. My PFD and my soft tackle bag got shredded, going to Sportsman Warehouse Wednesday to see if I can find any deals. Ryan is going to let me use his spare yak until I can get a seat for mine. Not sure how long it will be before I can get one, those seats are pretty expensive and its not in my budget, Ill have to save up for it. Hard to save up when you need so much other stuff. I'm just thankful I didn't burn a hole in the boat
