When the idiots powers that be at Claytor/AEP do this for no apparent reason, it's good to know safety actions. I saw flotsam and jetsam the size of small continents floating Wednesday. Attachments:

Thanks for the video Jeff! I fish in waders this time of year, and keep a dry bag with some safety items and warm dry clothes. I really would like to add a dry top to the ensamble, but money's a bit tight right now. But this video re-inforces the message that waders are not dangerous, and may just help keep you alive.

Hi Sam. Any idea what this huge release is all about? I'm still kinda new to the New, and I've been trying to watch the guages and make sense of the data. Is this predictive dumping for a storm maybe...? Or is it unpredicted insanity? Btw, thanks for adding cfs and the potential danger of huge releases to the discussion on winter safety. Very relevant.

Honestly I'm not sure even AEP knows what Claytor is doing. Britt at NROC in Pembroke has had several meetings and correspondence with various agencies and still nothing is resolved. I still say the drowning at McCoy last year could be traced to one of these unnecessary releases.

The releases of Claytor are to drop the lake level 3' so the homeowners on the lake can make repairs to their docks and such. That is according to the morning news.

Sam, what area of the new do you fish normally? Not trying to steal you spots, just wondering because we had a discusion a while back about the Radford guages, and how long it took to effect the water say at Whitethorn, eggleston, ect... I was wondering if you watch the guages, have you figured out when they release, how long it takes for the water to start rising where you are fishing?

Yea, durring training when I was a gamewarden, we had to jump in an olympic sized pool with waders on and swim to the other side. No Pfd. The waders will actually form an air pocket and float your legs up. the neoprene chest waders were almost like having a pfd on. We also had to be hadcuffed behind our back and thrown in and make it to the other side. I would like to get a dry top also, not sure if I will this year, but maybe next. I would like to have one of those dry suits, until I saw how much they cost.
