A few folks are coming down to Smith Mountain this upcoming Friday to try for some night time striper. We are going to meet up at the Oak Grove ramp off rt122. Not 100% on the meet up time yet but we'll post it up asap. Hope some folks can make it down!

Charlie Taylor released his latest fishing report and it looks good for tonight. The tug is the drug and I am fiending. What the hell is a cordell redfin and where to do I get one? Charlie Taylor Fishing Report link SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE - Night fishing is best for the stripers. Listen for the popping sounds of shad on the surface between 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Best areas are the mouths of creeks and best lure is the Cordell Redfin. Largemouth bass are hitting topwater lures early and late in the day. Midday, fish shady areas with Rapalas. Long casts and light line are a necessity. Smallmouth bass are schooling in open water off points and deep banks. Twitching Rapalas will take them. Live bait, fished at 20-25 feet, near the dam, will produce the larger stripers.

All you need is a Storm Thunderstick in silver with a blue or black back. Make sure to get the JOINTED model! You can get em for sure at Sportsmanswarehouse in Roanoke. Redfins are ok but over tye years the Thunderstick has produced more consistently for me. Btw a Cotton Cordell Redfin is just a long stickbait with a shallow lip on it.

We may have to take a minute and swing by sportsman warehouse real quick to pick one up. I am hoping to get out of work earlier than expected so that will give us a little extra time to stop.

Nice meeting ya there shortbus,,, I always have a good time when I'm on the water even if I did get skunked .... But I miss my yak, that thing I sat in last night was like a mini submarine. When the wakes from a boat came across the lake I had to put the bow into it or I know I would have rolled that thing... That being only my 2nd time on the water at night, Im starting to like it... I would have liked it a lot more if I could have caught a fish.... Glad you and BigD caught a couple
