My name is Guil and kinda lookn for ideas. We been stayin at mike's in Parrott behind the island (last 3 yrs aver a few trips / yr. Paddling up the big pond there and down to end of gravel road. (Shuttle limitations with only one vehicle.) Ray had an idea of paddling to NRJunction's park and shuttling back to their campground, then paddle up and across river back to gravel road and truck. I been following along on yall's trips and posts since January thinkin I would get up there b4 now but work has been killn me. And the may group float conflicted with a santee trip, so I didn't make that. But this weekend is set in stone. Ray and I will be up this Fri 6-19 @ 5pm worst case and fish til Sunday sometime. It appears to me it is easier to set shuttles if we stay on north side of river (between eggleston and belspring anyway). 1-Again I am lookn for ideas regardin shuttles and fishn trips (float down or fishn a single area) and campn locations on north side (river right). 2-we would love to have some company or join some folk fishn. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated. I been yakin for 30 yrs (worked gauley in 88 and 89), Ray is havin a lil knee issue and will be in a canoe. Thanks.

Guil, Sorry that I cant hook up with you guys this weekend, other plans been in the works. But I'm a little confused, I don't think there is anyway possible to paddle back up river from the Junction, I know I wouldn't want to try it... I'm thinking you guys are on the west side. I live on the East side in the McCoy area not far from the Junction. One of my favorite floats is from Big Falls to Eggleston and to Pembroke.... I have access to some property that is just across from Bell Springs(I've been told that Bell Springs is just on the other side) Maybe we can hook up next week or so,,, good luck.

Thanks rebel. I wasn't sure if upstream ferry would work. Lots of ledges in there too. I'll shout at ya b4 next trip. Question: How heavily is area around armory fished? Say Radford to Whitethorn.

I know the Whitethorn area is fished petty hard cause of the ramp access but I think most are fishing for Musky. The Pepper Ferry bridge to Whitethorn is a good float tho. I also like putting in at Bisset Park to Pepper Ferry Bridge, caught a lot of nice SM around the golf coarse area that you float threw on the way. But I enjoy all of the river I've been on so far, from Claytor Lake damn all the way to Pembroke.... will hook up one weekend soon I'm sure

From the Dedmon center in Radford down to the the grassy islands at the top of Whitethorne is pretty low pressure. Radford gets a lot of people on tubes and the Whitethorne ramp fills up pretty fast with boats. A lot depends on the water and grass levels. Good luck.

Thanks again for the feedback rebel. We had a great time. Shared water with numerous waders and asst other boats. Boy, it looked dicey getn there. I-77 was a mess and then ray broke my light rod in walmart parkn lot closing a cooler. (needed ice) It turned out that was first of two rods destined for retirement. We arrive at camp site and set shuttle for a 1.25 mile of river with bike and truck. I get back to camp and talk with some guy who says him and his 3 buddies caught 4 fish in last 2 days wading. Says maybe new moon is problem. So anyway me and ray put in and wear em out from 7.30 til paddling so close to bank I could only paddle on right side and hit water, lookn for truck in dark. We caught maybe 25 each, 1 small ski and missed or prematurely released 50 each over the weekend. Ray got on a morning pattern (sat) with the tiny (toe) torpedo, color mattered and he only had one. But the dinger in junebug caught the biggest fish consistently. Only 1 fish on a grub (smoke) all weekend. On sunday morn from 6 til 7 the lil toe (bullfrog) was hot until the river muddied and trashed up and rose maybe a bit. I never figured em out once river changed! We made 3 runs (fri nite and 2 sat) from parrott to maybe across from your landing? (nice grassy area with private campers on river right just below 2 islands where old concrete ferry support is located) Then fished sun morn solo in big pond at parrott. Waders were catchn, driftn chubs mainly. Yall say a prayer for whoever fiipped car and caught it on fire on belspring road on Saturday afternoon during thunderstorm. I was feeln sorry for myself til then, cuz I broke a second rod falln out of boat 25 yds from takeout sat morn. It is all kinda relative. Lookn forward to fishn wit ya soon.
