I'm looking to upgrade my current senko setup. I'm planning on another Pflueger reel (more than likely a president) but am struggling with what type of rod is best for weightless senkos. Not sure whether or not to go with a medium light, medium heavy, or just a medium but it seems to be a consensus that a fast or extra fast action rod is best. Any advice would help, just wanted to see what you guys think works best and get an idea of some of the setups you use for this presentation.

I have 2 Pflueger President reels (6930's) and I absolutely love them. I have them both mounted on berkley lightening shock rods, 7' 6" long, medium light with moderate fast action. I like the length of the rods on the Kayak because I can cast light weight lures a mile and I can work the rod around the front of the boat. I have both reels stringed with 15 lb braid and use a 10 pound fluorocarbon leader. I wacky rig all the time with this set up and it works well for me. If you decide to use braid make sure you wind it up as tight as you can on the reel, helps with tangles and wraps at the end of the rod if you have a bad cast. I use a simple albright knot for my leader and it has yet to fail me.

In my opinion the rod and line are most important to combine properly. I use a 10# braid (no stretch) so I need to combine with a rod that allows for a lil give kinda like a shock absorber. I twitch a dinger on top and can make it walk back and forth but only with a soft tip. The reel is most important for me when I am behind on getn slack outta the line prior to hookset. So much of stickbait fishn is deadstickn with a lil slack in line, I want somethin pretty fast on the take up so I can catch up. I never reel when the fish is pulling drag cuz it will kill a reel quickly. The lack of a leader seldom hurts my ratio of bites compared to other folks. And I believe the floating braid slows the drop rate getn me more bites compared to fluro leader setups. Even tho braid is ultra sensitive I probably see as many strikes (if wind aint blown) becuz of line twitch on top of water as I feel. Fiberglass rods are slower and more flexible as a rule than newer varieties but it comes down to whatever works in your hands, with your line, with your set up. And lastly you can throw a stickbait a mile with just about anything and if you grab the line just b4 touchdown it will hit the water more like a dandelion than a 45 cal shell casing. And take some time to learn to skip the bait from both sides cuz you will be fishn places most overhanders cant reachAttachments_2015623.zip (209.05 KB). There are several pro fishermen who make a darn good living throwing stickbaits most of the time and most have websites with intel that will help.
