Has anyone launched a yak at Rt. 619 @ Graham Forge? Been wanting to fish here for some time and finally had a chance to scout it. There are no Trespassing signs at the bridge which concerns me a bit being that I do not know what legal access I have from the bridge.

Hi Ken, welcome to the forum. Being rather new to the area, I've never fished, or even heard of Reed Creek, for that matter. Google Maps shows it to be over near Pulaski? I couldn't really find Graham Forge, either. I would be interested to learn more about another waterway, though. Is this Bass water, or trout water? Or both?

Are you talking about Reed Creek that is above RT 100 near Blue Cat on the New? I knew a guy that put in there on occasion in a canoe.

I presume this stream is a rock bass/smallie stream. Cripple has some trout but I doubt _Reed does.

Never fished Reed creek. Maybe someone will help you with access info. We tried to fish little river last year, and had trouble finding a put in spot that we could leave a vehicle.

There are a few Youtube vids that appear to be footage of the lower section(s) and some outfitter info to boot.
I hope you are aware there are some significant rapids between Rt. 716 near Rt. 8>787. If you want to explore this section next spring I may give it a whirl. There are three solid IIIs on this particular stretch and some very long boney rock studded shoals.

I was unaware of the rapids, I don't know a lot about little river. I have a permit to fish the dam area, and have caught some fish up there. We were trying to find a place to put in upstream and float to the dam. Couldn't find a place.

Went back up to Reed Creek to do some additional scouting. I have located some access points just downstream of the Wytheville trout hatchery. This area is well suited for wading and can serve as a put in for a float trip. However, there are some significant rapids in the loop just upstream of Grahams Forge. There are some red ribbons on a cable just downstream of the bridge(Rt. 619) which apparently indicates the landowner does not want guests downstream.
There is one narrow pull-off near the New River Rt. 618 that is not posted that can serve as a possible take out.
I should also mention the area around the hatchery also contains trout that escape from the hatchery. This stream has plenty of elbow room for downriver kayak fishing.

Ken I think axlensam1 member has some experience on Reed Creek. He is from around that vacinity. PM him sometime, maybe he can help shoot you in the right direction.
