After transfering colleges to a school in South Carolina, I was really excited to find out there is smallmouth river fishing just like at home. Shortly after moving here, I reached out to a guide named Mike McSwain who runs a guide service called Broad River Smallmouth. I have been out on the water with him twice since August, the others I went with and myself have done really well both trips. The river begins in southern North Carolina and runs to Columbia, South Carolina before joining with the Saluda River to form the Congaree River. The river fishes much different than both the James and New Rivers and unlike these two, the river is not pressured whatsoever as a result of very limited public access. With that said, I just wanted to share some pictures of fish I have caught on these two trips as well as other fish caught those two days. You can contact on Facebook (Broad River Smallmouth) or on his website broadriversmallmouth.com. If you love smallmouth fishing, this is truly a unique experience that is definitely worth the trip and presents a great opportunity to catch a PB smallie and a chunky largemouth on the same trip.
