Has anyone been to Gatewood Reservior in Pulaski? I was thinking of hitting it up Thursday and wanted to get an idea of the place. Is it worth making the 1 1/2 hr drive? What's good to use? Etc....
Thanks

I haven't been there in years. I use to struggle with bass there, but it used to be full of Crappie and bluegill. Some people really like it. It's a good place to camp also. Where are you coming from?

I try to go there a few times a year and I think it is worth the trip for the scenery alone. The fishing can be tough because the water is clear and the banks are steep. I mostly fly fish on it and catch a lot of nice bluegill and crappie and the occasional bass. Gatewood was listed as the top bass water in our region in the 2016 VADGIF bass forecast. There are lots of lizards that you can see, but from what I read the bass pretty much ignore those because of the taste or something like that so I wouldn't waste too much time trying to imitate them.
A few of us camped out there last summer and hit some great catfishing at night on livers but most of the fish were small. The people at the store usually have some good info on where the fish are located and what they are biting on. There are some nice campsites that can only be reached by boat and they are also the only ones that can be reserved in advance. I wish I could make it out there with you but unfortunately I will be working.
