It was feeling so good out I thought Id give it a try. I got down to the spot I were I always launch at, looked out there and decided I was going for it, the currant didn't look all that strong and the wind was just right(none) I put it in 4x4 backed down in there to launch and realized this wasn't not a good idea... After several attempts I was able to climb back out of there, I took a picture and went back home to watch the race... No Fish Today

Man that looks rough! Getting out there wouldn't have been terrible but Tryin to get back to shore would have been interesting!

Dam Harry, next time drag the yak down to the water. that would be a rough spot to get stuck in.

I bet the river will be a muddy torrent this weekend it is running at 10,800 cfs and rising. I usually hit some of the small feeder streams when the water is up. Walker Creek is a good one to paddle in higher water but it does require a short trip down the New to get to the takeout. We did it one time when the New was running at around 20,000 and paddled down the road at Ripplemead because it was under water.

lazydrifter I've got a buddy that paddles that part of Walker Creek maybe you know him, his name's Oaka. I've always fished further back towards Whitegate and done really well but I've wanted to try that part that flows into the New.

I have only floated from route 100 to ripplemead once during the super wet summer of 2013 when the water was running high enough to float it without scraping much. The water was cold for July and I don't think we fished much that trip just went out to paddle. Do you kayak on the upper parts and what do you catch?

I'm going to give the New a shot tomorrow. I don't think they have stopped generating all week but the weather is going to be too nice. Probably float around Radford.
